Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep. My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.I and the Father are one.” (vv. 25-30)
Many Christians focus on the miracles that Christ performed such as healing the sick. We must be careful when interpreting the miracles because they must be accompanied with the truth of God. God does give the power to perform miracles to false prophets to test and train us. Deuteronomy 13:1-5 explains that.
If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes true, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let’s follow other gods (whom you have not known) and let’s serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer of dreams; for the Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him. But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken falsely against the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to drive you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall eliminate the evil from among you. (Deuteronomy 13:1-5)
Many false shepherds around the world claim that they can heal the sick and that they are sent by God. But they do not understand the Bible. They speak lies about God. There are many Christians who say that they became reborn when they heard the words of a preacher, a Christian book, or a hymn. I do not think they are truly reborn because one must be changed through the words of God, not by a man’s words. The distinct feature of a reborn Christian is that they understand the words of God. The Jews in chapter 10 failed to understand that Christ was the Son of God because they judged Him by their own standards. Therefore, Christ told them that they were blind. Anyone who misunderstands the old covenant and the Israel history cannot understand why the Son of God became a man. Not knowing Christ leads to death because we understand the Father only through Him. That is why Christ is the Word and Truth.
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (John 17:3)
The Jews did not condemn Jesus for His works but for His words. They did not see that His words and works were in harmony. Christians need to be trained to recognize the false Christians. However, the churches have gone corrupt and are unable to educate people. I do talk about my dreams but do not believe me if my words speak lies about God. But I do speak about the common Christian beliefs. Didn’t the Reformers preach Sola Gratia? But many have turned away. They have accepted the false teachings of the false theologians and ministers who infiltrated into leadership. The Protestant churches have been heading downhill since the 17th century. But it is also God’s will because they were given limited knowledge. The demise of visible churches is God’s will because false Christians occupy them.
In chapter 10, Christ leaves Jerusalem and goes away beyond the Jordan. And we read that many people came to Him and believed in Him there.
And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He stayed there. Many came to Him and were saying, “While John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this man was true.” And many believed in Him there. (vv. 40-42)
